Candle care

Tending the flame

  1. i.

    Give the first burn time

Burn for two to three hours. The wax doesn’t need to melt all the way to the edges the first time; it catches up over the next few burns.

  2. ii.

    Trim the wooden wick

Before each lighting, snap or trim the wick to about ⅛ inch and brush away any charred bits.

  3. iii.

    Keep it out of drafts

A steady flame burns cleanly and evenly. Set the candle on a heat-safe surface, away from open windows and vents.

  4. iv.

    Rest after four hours

Let the candle cool and the wax set before lighting it again.

  5. v.

    Never leave a flame alone

Keep burning candles within sight, and out of reach of children and pets.

  6. vi.

    Know when to stop

Retire the candle when about ½ inch of wax remains in the bottom of the jar.
